Ways Trees Benefit The Planet

Trees are beautiful to look at and they serve the environment in many ways. Trees fight climate change, clean the air we breathe, and cool down city streets during the dead of summer. That’s just skimming the surface of ways trees can benefit our planet. Here are more ways on how trees benefit the planet.

Climate change: As a tree grows, trees help absorb CO2 or carbon dioxide while producing oxygen for the environment. Also, trees can have the ability to clean the air by filtering odors and pollutant gases by trapping them in the leaves and bark.

Cooling: Air conditioning can be reduced by 50% by having a tree’s shade in the right place in the yard. Not only housing can get the cooling effect, but city streets also receive a cooling effect from having tree lined streets. Trees also release water vapor through their leaves thus cooling the area even more.

Soil: A tree’s root system helps the environment in a couple ways. The lateral root system helps with soil erosion by helping loose soil stay in place with roots and root hairs. Shade from a tree can also slow down water evaporation which helps a thirsty lawn. Trees reduce runoff allowing the water to flow down the trunk and into the earth below the tree. Which prevents stormwater from taking pollutants to the ocean. When properly mulched, trees act like a sponge as it filters this water naturally and then uses it to recharge groundwater supplies.

Vista: Trees can be placed in certain locations throughout the property so that they can block certain things like headlights, neighbors, or public areas. Trees also reduce noise from the outside like busy roads, machinery, and people. As well as beautifying areas in cityscapes, trees encourage a habitat for animals in the local ecosystem. Birds make their nests; squirrels gather acorns and turkeys roost from the canopy of trees.

In conclusion, trees serve us in many ways. Humans, the planet, and animals should thank trees for all the benefits trees give. Trees can help us, but they can also pose a risk. As a homeowner it is important to maintain your trees in high frequency areas due to safety reasons. For this you must find a company dedicated to doing the right thing in tree care. The ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) and the TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association) have standards of tree care operations that good tree services follow. Find a tree company that really wants to do the right thing in tree work.
